Training

As a manufacturer, we depend on repeat sales through our distributors for income and growth. This relationship makes us true partners with our distributors. To help our franchisees succeed over the long haul, Matco offers a step-by-step training process that ensures new owners have the business skills and real-world knowledge to succeed.

Training is conducted at the corporate and regional level by the veteran Matco Tools Training Team.

New Distributor Training

All new Matco Distributors attend the Matco Tools New Distributor Training Program. This comprehensive, time-tested training consists of both hands-on field training and interactive classroom instruction.

Week 1
Initial Field Training [Preparation Week]

Following the signing of all business documents, new franchisees will:

  • Ride with an experienced Matco Franchisee
  • Be assigned to a designated Regional Trainer or District Manager
  • Receive their "List of Calls"
  • Begin making initial sales contacts to pre-identify potential customers

Week 2 & 3
Classroom Training

New franchise owners then receive nine days of interactive classroom training at the Matco Tools Corporate Headquarters.

These classes consist of:

  • Discussion forums
  • Audio-visual aids
  • Computer simulations
  • Computer-based training (CBT)
  • Role playing
  • Interactive adult learning

A special feature of our classroom training is our full size Matco Tools truck located on the second floor of the Corporate Headquarters. This actual truck is used to provide real world customer interaction simulations.

Week 4
Initial Field Training

Conducted Monday through Friday, new franchise owners will be directly assisted by their Regional Trainer or District Manager to learn about:

  • Customer relations
  • Inventory management
  • Financial management
  • Sales and collections
  • Product sales
  • Credit management
  • Inventory control
  • Order entry
  • Computer systems
  • Business reports
  • Time management and more

Week 6 & 8
Field Training

The District Manager gives franchise owners one on one training on the daily and weekly requirements of the business, including:

  • Sales effectiveness
  • Collection techniques
  • Route management

Additional field training
Refresher Course

Scheduled six weeks after the start of business, this training serves as a refresher course on all aspects of the business, such as:

  • Review of customer relations
  • Product sales
  • Credit management
  • Inventory control
  • Order entry
  • Computer systems
  • Business reports and time management
  • Other consultation and coaching

Ongoing Training and Support

All Matco Franchisees are able to take advantage of the many opportunities we provide for additional training. Training is made available through a variety of mediums including:
