Dedicated to helping our franchise owners succeed, we offer an extensive training program that provides owners with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed and grow in the automotive tools and equipment industry. Training is conducted by our Matco Tools Training Team, which consists of both corporate-based trainers and Regional Trainers.

New Distributor Training

All new Matco franchisees are required to attend and complete the Matco Tools New Distributor Training Program. This program is broken down into two categories:

Week 1 – (Preparation Week) Initial Field Training – Following the signing of all business documents, new franchisees will:

  • Ride with an experienced Matco Franchisee
  • Be assigned to a designated Regional Trainer or District Manager
  • Receive their "List of Calls"
  • Begin making initial sales contacts with designated Matco Representative to pre-identify potential customers

Week 2 & 3 – Classroom Training – New owners will receive nine days of classroom training at the Matco Tools Corporate Headquarters in Stow, Ohio.

Classes are conducted on:

  • Wednesday through Saturday the first week
  • Monday through Friday the second week

Classes will include:

  • Discussion Forums
  • Audio-visual aids
  • Computer simulations
  • Computer-based training (CBT)
  • Role Playing
  • Interactive Adult Learning

A special feature of our classroom training is our "full size" Matco Tools truck located on the second floor of the Corporate Headquarters. This actual truck is used to provide real world customer interaction simulations for franchise owners in training.

Week 4 – Initial Field Training – Conducted Monday through Friday, new franchise owners work with their Regional Trainer or District Manager to learn about Customer Relations, Inventory, Management, Financial Management, Sales and Collections.

During this time, direct assistance is provided with customer relations, product sales, credit management, inventory control, order entry, computer systems, business reports and time management.

Week 6 & 8 – Performed by the franchisee's District Manager, franchise owners will focus on the daily and weekly requirements of the business, including sales and collection techniques and route management.

Field Training – Scheduled six weeks after the start of business, this training serves as a refresher course on all aspects of the business, such as review of customer relations, product sales, credit management, inventory control, order entry, computer systems, business reports and time management – as well as, consultation and coaching

On-Going Training – All Matco Franchisees are provided the opportunity for additional training. Training is made available through a variety of mediums such as:

  • In field Diagnostic training support
  • District Sales Meetings
  • Newsletters
  • Regional Meetings
  • Training Seminars
  • Audio and Visual Tapes
  • Operations Manual Revisions
  • On-Truck Demonstrations
  • Training Bulletins
  • Matco University – online continuous training
  • Annual Conventions – "Tool Expo"
